Kosta Bastas, a young father of two, died after his home in south-west Sydney caught fire on Tuesday.
The tragic fire is the state’s 12th big blaze in less than a week, prompting authorities to issue additional urgent warnings.
Around 10.20 p.m., emergency services were dispatched to Varden Way in Ambarvale after reports of a fire.
Firefighters pushed their way into the house’s back, where they discovered the man unconscious.
Superintendent Adam Dewberry of Fire and Rescue NSW told 7NEWS that the man was “non-responsive” and “not breathing.”
The man was taken outside and CPR was started.
He couldn’t be revived and died at the scene.
Bastas, who is in his 30s, is thought to have been home alone and the only occupant of the house.
Specialist officers will inspect the crime scene that was set up by police.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and it is also unknown whether the blaze was suspicious.
The loungeroom, according to firefighters, is “an area of interest” in the case.
