A kangaroo kicked and repeatedly “stomped” on a Queensland woman as she was playing golf on the Gold Coast, sending her to the hospital.
After the animal kicked her over without provocation this morning at Arundel Hills Country Club, the 69-year-old woman received severe head, face, arms, and leg lacerations.
“She’s fallen to the ground with that first kick and while she was on the ground she’s been stomped on a number of times by the kangaroo,” Queensland Ambulance Operations Supervisor Joel McEwan said.
The deepest cuts, according to Mr McEwan, were to her jaw.
“The lacerations were sustained after the kangaroo kicked her,” he claimed.
The woman was transferred to Pindara Private Hospital.
The animal attacked the woman “without warning” as she walked along a fairway.
Although kangaroos are normally peaceful, they have been known to attack when threatened.
The Queensland Department of Environment and Science stated, “The reality is that they can be aggressive towards people.”
“Although the risk of this happening is very small, we still need to be wary around them.”
This follows two such attacks in the previous month.
