Andrew Symonds’ Wife Speaks Out After Cricket Legend Tragic Death

May 15, 2022

Andrew Symonds, a legendary cricketer and mentor, has died in a car accident in northern Queensland. The former all-rounder was involved in a single-car accident around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night.

The family’s statement, which was sent out on Sunday morning, confirmed the bad news, thanking well-wishers for their sentiments and requesting that their privacy be respected. The accident occurred late on Saturday night at Hervey Range, according to Queensland Police.

Symonds wife Laura told the Courier Mail: “We are still in shock – I’m just thinking of the two kids.

“He was such a big person and there is just so much of him in his kids.’’

She paid tribute to Symonds, saying he was “an extremely chilled operator” and “always had time for everyone”.

It’s thought that Symonds was driving along Hervey Range Road, near the Alice River Bridge, when his vehicle left the road and flipped. Paramedics tried to save Symonds, but he died at the scene as a result of his injuries.

It’s another devastating blow for Australian cricket, with Symonds the second great of the game to pass away just months after Shane Warne.
