A father left his ten-year partner after falling in love with the Ukrainian immigrant they had taken in.
Tony Garnett, 29, filed for the government’s refugee programme but became dissatisfied with the length of time it took, so he joined different groups on Facebook where residents were trying to help Ukrainian refugees with a place to stay.
One of these groups is where 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym found Tony as she was fleeing her home in Lviv after the start of Russian invasion.
The two of them just clicked, Tony told The Sun, and they got along swimmingly from the start.
The pair began chatting in a language Lorna didn’t understand, staying up to watch TV after she had gone to bed and going to the gym together on a daily basis.
They ended up ‘making excuses to touch and brush against one another,’ and the atmosphere in the home became heated.
Tony’s wife Lorna was devastated about the situation and asked Sofiia to leave the family’s home.
However, she was shocked when Tony told her: ‘If she’s going, I’m going’.
Tony said: ‘I am so sorry for what Lorna is going through, this was not her fault and it was not about anything she did wrong.’
Sofiia said: ‘As soon as I saw him I fancied him. It’s been very quick but this is our love story. I know people will think badly of me but it happens. I could see how unhappy Tony was.’
A close friend of Lorna said that she is heartbroken.
